Two days National dialogue on Climate Resilient Horticulture crops was organized on 28th& 29th January, 2012 at Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bangalore-560089, to provide a common forum for scientists working on Impacts and Adaptation of horticultural crops to climate change for exchanging scientific ideas and technologies.

 

Dr. Amrik Singh Sidhu, Director, IIHR, in his opening remarks deliberated on both the positive and negative impacts of climate change, and urged upon the audience to face the challenges posed by climate change by the use of appropriate technologies.Dr. B. Venkateswarlu, Director, CRIDA and NICRA coordinator, briefed the house on the objectives and operational aspects of the NICRA project. Dr. H.P.Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticulture), ICAR, New Delhi, in his keynote address emphasized the need for modifying thet production technology keeping in view the changing climatic conditions. He elaborated on the use of sprinkler irrigation for the mitigation of heat wave stress in wheat and asked the audience to explore such possibilities to maintain the total water balance in plants and understand the plant phenology. Dr. H.P. Singh emphasized the role of rootstocks in mitigating mitigating biotic and abiotic stresses in vegetable crops, like tomato, brinjal and melon.
