Tuberose Field Day was Organized at Gowribidanur Taluk on 23rd January, 2020

A field day on tuberose (Arka Prajwal) under Bhoosamruthi project at H.Nagasandravillage, GowribidanurTq, Chikkabalapur Dt was jointly organized by ICAR-IIHR, Bengalore and KVK, Chintamani on 23.01.2020. The main aim of this field day was to create awareness about the Tuberose variety Arka Prajwal. The field day was conducted in the Tuberose field of Mr.Chandrasekhar at H.Nagasandra village. Dr.C.R.Aswath, Head I/C, Division of Floriculture and Medicinal crops, ICAR-IIHR along with Dr.P.C.Tripathi, Principal Investigator of the BhooSamruthi Project, Mr.Ravikumar ADH,Mr.Manjunath, ADA, Gowribidanur, held an Interaction meeting with  farmers and shared them about good agricultural practices for successful tuberose cultivation. After the Interaction session at tuberose field, there was an interface between scientists and farmers, which was started with welcome by Dr.R.Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR, followed by Mr. Yellappa, ICRISAT representative briefing about BhooSamruthi activities at Chikaaballapur district. Dr.J.Sathisha, Principal Scientist, elaborated the purpose of Tuberose field day. Dr.T.Usha Bharathi, Scientist, Division of Flower crops delivered a talk on Tuberose cultivation and bulb production. Mr. Chandrasekar, Mr.Shiva and and Mr.Basavappa Reddy, Tuberose growers shared their experience and the doubts raised by farmers were clarified by Dr.Anil Kumar Nair Principal Scientist ,Division of vegetable crops and Dr. Rajive Kumar,  Division of flower  crops. Dr. C. R. Aswath, Head I/C, division of Flower crops and medicinal crops, ICAR-IIHR in his presidential remarks highlighted the Flower growers about the potential of Arka Prajwal and other  potential flower crops suitable for that area, precautions to be taken while spraying  for harmful pesticides for managing the  pest and diseases, and formation of FPOs for profitable cultivation of Flower crops. He also invited farmers to utilize the opportunity of National Horticulture Fair, which is going to be held at IIHR during February 5-8, 2020. The meeting came to end with vote of thanks proposed by Dr.Viswanath, Scientist, KVK, Chintamani. The participants  in this field day were Mrs.Laxmi, ICRISAT and Mr.Anand IWMI representatives and Mr.Atheequlla, Scientist from Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, officials from Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Staff members of KVK and more than 50 progressive farmers. This field day was coordinated by Dr.P.C.Tripathi Principal Scientist, Division of fruits crops, Mr.Atheequlla, Scientist and Dr.R.Senthil Kumar Principal Scientist, Division of Social sciences and training.
