The Training cum Awareness Programme On Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act, 2001

            The Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU), ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Hessaraghatta, Bengaluru through ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hirehalli organized the Awareness Programme on  “Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act, 2001” on 18.05.2022 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hirehalli to create awareness among the farmers and stakeholders.

            The Programmestarted with welcome address by Shri. K.N. Jagadish ACTO/SMS Agril.Extension and Programme Organizer, ICAR-KVK,Hirehalli.The Programme was inaugurated by Smt. Bhagya Satish, President, Hirehalli Panchayat and dignitaries on dias.  Dr. K. Hima Bindu, Nodal Officer ITMU and Principal Scientist (Division of Flower and Medicinal Crops), ICAR-IIHRpresented the keynote addressand Dr. M. Pitchaimuthu, Principal Scientist (Division of Vegetable Crops), ICAR-IIHR  gave introduction about the programme. Dr.ShyamalaRanganath, Prof. UAS Bengaluru, Dr.Loganandhan,N., Head ICAR KVK, Hirehalli,Tumakuru of the Campus have presided the entire programme. Dr. Kempegowda, Director, IDF Tumakuru, PPV& FRA Plant Genome Savoir Scout, Shri Gurudath and Shri Rajesh CEO FPO were the other chief guests. One extension folder on “Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act,2001” and two books titled“Jackfruit-Commercial fruit of Future” and “Our Seeds- Hand book of vegetable seed production”were released by Smt.Baghya Satish, President of GramaPanchyat.

           The technical session included online presentation by  Dr.Niranjana Murthy, Retd Prof. ADR,UAS,Bengaluru on “Provisions of PPV & FR Act 2001”, lecture on “Nine farmers rights under PPV&FRA Act 2021” by Dr. Hanumantha Gowda & Shri. J. M. Prashanth, “Application format and filling Procedure for registering the crop varieties by Smt. Radha R. Banakarand Mr. P. R. Ramesh,  “Activities of National Innovation Foundation” (NIF) by Shri. HaradevChoudhary, Scientist D, (NIF), Govt. of India, Gujarat, Indi, “Collection and conservation  of native vegetables seed” by Shri. T. Krishna Prasad, Director, Sahaja Samrudha and“Registration of farmers varieties” was given by Shri. K. N. Jagadish.

         Farmers from different villages exhibited different varieties of their Jackfruit, Banana and Betel vine. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Programme Assistant, KVK,Hirehalli.A total 104 participants consisting of farmers, farmwomen, developmental department officials, NGO officials and scientists participated in the awareness programme.
