Swachhta Pakhwada 2020 programme on 19.12.2020 at ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru

IIHR Bengaluru: As part of Swachhta Pakhwada programme a demonstration on waste matter composting and recycling was done by Dr G Selvakumar at IIHR on 19th December 2020. The process of easy decomposition of agricultural waste was explained and demonstrated for effective management of waste material after segregation of non-biodegradable waste. Besides the stock taking of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste disposal status and on the spot solutions was provided. Cleanliness and sanitation drive within campuses, surroundings and residential colonies was observed. The programme was attended by Head and staff of Natural resource management division and nodal officer swachh Bharath Abhiyan.

CHES, Chettalli:

Today’s Swachhta Pakhwada activity, a lecture on Clean and Green Technologies of Waste Disposal and Organic Farming Practices in Kitchen Gardens was organized at ICAR-IIHR-CHES, Chettalli. Dr. M. Senthilkumar Scientist (Vegetable Science) delivered the lecture and all the employees including scientific, technical, supporting and outsourced personnel were participated. He started the lecture by a message of importance of wearing masks, hand sanitization and social distancing amid alarming COVID 19 situation across the world. He expressed that due to ever growing population and lifestyle changes, there are lot of wastes generated and accumulated day by day, and their safe disposal is become the major issue in the current scenario. Further he explained that improper management of solid wastes resulted in environmental and ecological imbalances. He had also created awareness among the participants, the advantage of sorting wastes at source and storage of different kinds of wastes separately for their proper recycling and reuse. In addition, he insisted that in our day to day life we have to follow 3Rs principles of Reduce, Recycle and Reuse to maintain our ecological health. Moreover he explained compost making from household wastes and their utilization for growing vegetables in the kitchen or home yard gardens. Also he added the importance of organic farming practices such as Panchagavya, Geevamirtham, and biodynamic formulations that are easily prepared at household levels and their role in maintaining soil, plant and ecological health. The take home message of the lecture was to follow the swachhta in our day to day life to keep our environment neat and clean, and educate and create awareness among the family members and the neighbours for making clean and healthy India.
