Special Training Programme was organized for Members of FPOs of Vijayapura District of Karnataka.
ICAR-IIHR organized a special training programme on “Crops identified for Value addition (Production, Postharvest & Marketing)" under KWDP-II, Sujala-III, Department of Horticulture, Government of Karnataka, during September 10-14, 2018. Thirty one farmer members of FPOs of Vijayapura attended the training programme. Dr Prakash Patil, Director (i/c), ICAR-IIHR inaugurated the training programme, interacted with the participants and laid emphasis on developing entrepreneurs through various ICAR-IIHR technologies. During the five-day deliberations, participants acquired knowledge and skills on fruit crop technologies, ornamental and medicinal crop technologies, vegetable cultivation; seed and planting material production for commercial cultivation and nursery management, integrated pest, disease & nutrient management and technologies for commercial /agri-business avenues, business avenues in post-harvest technologies and ventures for custom hiring centres, horticultural technologies of IIHR; process and benefits of licensing technologies etc.
Apart from the presentation and interaction at IIHR, field visits to different experimental/ demonstration blocks of the institute were also arranged to provide better exposure to different activities, achievements and technologies of the institute. Additionally all the participants were taken to outside field visits (Ekkalaya Nursery, CHES –Hirehalli and KVK, Hirehalli) to provide better exposure.
The training ended with a valedictory function on the 14th September, 2018, where in the Director (i/c), Dr.Prakash Patil presided over the session and distributed certificates, supporting literature, reference material and AMC, Vegetable and Citrus Special and vegetable seed kits to the trainees. The trainees expressed satisfaction on the conduct of the training programme and opined that they have learnt many new scientific management practices to implement under real farm situations. The programme was coordinated by Dr.V.Sankar, Principal Scientist and Dr.Achala Paripurna ,Senior Scientist, Division of Social Science and Training, ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore.
