Training on “Use of Drone for Agricultural Purposes” for the field technical staff of ICAR-IIHR

A two-day training programme for the field Technical Staff of ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru was held during 9-10 January, 2023.  The Government of India emphasizes the opportunities to capitalize the technological advances made in the application of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV) for agricultural purposes was felt to realize the dream of the government, i.e. one smart phone in hand and one drone in field, the human resource has to be empowered with technical skill. To achieve this target, as a first step one training programme for the Technical Staff of ICAR-IIHR was organized.  The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, The Director, ICAR-IIHR on 9th January, 2023.  The training was provided by the team of experts lead by Mr. H.G. Shivakumar from M/s. Multiplex, Bengaluru Office who supplied the M-Drone under the RKVY scheme on “Seed and Planting Material Production”.  The training programme included theory part and practical sessions with simulations on the first day.  On the second day, the hands-on training was provided to all participants.  All 21 participants had the opportunity to handle the drone and practice the flight of the UAV. The practical sessions were held in the open ground near the National Horticultural Fair demonstration area. The participants expressed the desire for further training of longer duration.  The researchable issues of standardizing the spray doses, calibrations for different horticultural crops having diverse planting methods and canopy size emerged during the interaction session.  All the participants were given a certificate for their participation.  The programme was cooridianted by Dr. S. Sriram, Nodal Officer for Drone Demonstration and facilitated by the Dr. H.S. Yogeesha, Nodal Officer for RFS for Seed and Planting Material, Dr. K.V. Ravishankar, Nodal Officer for RKVY schemes and Dr. V. Sridhar, Nodal Officer, HRD cell.
