Sponsored Training Programme on "Awareness/Sensitization program on Indian Standards relevant to agriculture and food department”

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra,Hirehalli, Tumakuru in collaboration with Bureau of Indian Standards, Bengaluru organized “Awareness/Sensitization Program on BIS Activities, eBis  & Quality Control Orders Relevant to Food and Agriculture Department” @ Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav on 30th December 2021 . The programme started with ICAR-IIHR, Theme Song, and Welcome by K.N.Jagadish, Subject Matter Specialist Agril.Extension. Dr. Loganandhan, N., Head in his introductory address, stressed that the key emphasis is needed for BIS in Agriculture Sector for achieving the 5 trillion-economy dream of our Honourable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi Ji. Agriculture is the backbone of economic system of a country and food is one of the most essential requirement for human life. BIS through Food and Agriculture Department (FAD) formulates Indian Standards for food, feed, agricultural equipment, and systems covering the entire food supply chain. The government of India is very much keen to develop a quality culture and quality consciousness across the country and standards/Standardization plays an immensely significant role in this direction.

Shri Amit Roy, Director of BIS, Bengaluru highlighted the importance of BIS in Food and Agriculture Department. The major activities of BIS are Formulation of Indian Standards, Certification of various Products with standard mark (popularly known as ISI Mark), laboratory testing of various products as per Indian standards, Management Systems Certification and Hallmarking of Gold & Silver, Foreign Manufacturing Certification Scheme, Compulsory Registration Scheme for electronic products. Other important activities of BIS include conducting promotional activities, imparting training to corporate entities/individuals, Standardization quality system, and Quality and management system certification apart from other allied services. In this area, a total (FAD)2100 Indian Standards have been formulated. During Shri Amit Roy, Director Presentation in English was translated to Kannada by K.N.Jagadish for the benefit of farmer participants.

Smt. Shivangi Rai, Standards Promotion Officer briefed about how to use BIS website and BIS Care android App which is developed by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Government of India is the National Standards Body.

About 58 participants attended along with KVK officials, Agriculture related manufacturers, Developing farmers, SHGs, NGOs and dealers of farming equipment.

The awareness programme was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence. The Programme was coordinated by Dr.Loganandhan, N, Head & K.N.Jagadish SMS Agril.Extension. Finally, a vote of thanks by Smt. Shivangi Rai, Standards Promotion Officer, BIS, Bengaluru.
