IACR-IIHR organized on-campus training on Horticultural Technologies for officials of Lakshadweep Island

ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) organized field exposure visit cum training on ICAR-IIHR technologies for the  officials of   Lakshadweep Island during September 7-9, 2021. Dr. B. N. Srinivasamurthy, Director, IIHR extended a warm welcome to the officials and  explained about ICAR-IIHR technologies suitable for Island conditions and laid emphasis on licensing of various ICAR-IIHR technologies through KVK and Department of Agriculture of Lakshadweep Island. Dr. R. Venkattakumar, Principal Scientist and In-charge Head, Division of Social Science and Training, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru explained about IIHR technologies for doubling the farmers income and also entrepreneurship development. Dr. V. Shankar, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training ICAR-IIHR, delivered lecture on "Varieties and hybrids of vegetable crops and latest vegetable  technologies of ICAR-IIHR” suitable for Lakshadweep Island. Dr. R. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Sciences and Training delivered a lecture on "Fruit crop technologies of ICAR-IIHR". Dr. S. Bhuveneswari and Dr. R. B. Tiwari, Principal Scientists of Post Harvest Technology and value addition, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru explained about fruit and vegetable processing and value addition. Dr. C. Chandrasekara, Scientist, Crop Protection Division opined about mushroom technologies. Dr. D. Kalaivanan, Scientist of Natural Resource Management explained soilless cultivation of vegetables and terrace gardening. Later, Dr. G. Senthilkumaran, Principal Scientist, Division of Post Harvest Technology and Agricultural Engineering  narrated the horticultural machinery suitable for Island. The lectures were interspersed with field visits to demonstration blocks, nursery, visit to ATIC, vegetable seed unit, post-harvest lab, mushroom lab and various units of the institute. Further, the officials also facilitated to visit KVK, Sandiyur, Salem district. KVK, Elumichaigiri, Krishnagiri and HRS - TNAU, Yercaud. This programme was coordinated by Dr. V. Sankar, Principal Scientist and Dr R. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Science and Training,  ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore.
