CHES, ICAR-IIHR, Bhubaneswar, Celebrated the Event ‘Food and Nutrition for Farmers’

A awareness-cum-exhibition programme on ‘Food and nutrition for farmers’ was organized at the Central Horticultural Experiment Station, ICAR-IIHR Bhubaneswar, Odisha on 26.08.2021. About fifty progressive farmers, farm women, and agricultural field workers were participated in the day-long programme. In the opening remarks, Dr. G. C. Acharya, Head, CHES has emphasized on the status of food and nutritional security of the farmers. He has also shed light on the transformation of Indian food habits and focused on the health benefits of different unutilized and minor fruits & vegetables. Dr. Kundan Kishore, Principal Scientist (Fruit Science) has stressed on the importance of the antioxidant and nutrition-rich fruits for healthy living. Dr. Srinivas, Principal Scientist (Plant Pathology) highlighted the adoption of kitchen gardening for ensuring food and nutritional security of the Farmers. Dr. M. R. Sahoo, Principal Scientist (Horticulture) underlined the need for nutraceutical fruits and vegetables for health improvement. Mr. S. Singh, scientist has discussed on the role of underutilized crops in mitigating nutritional insecurity among the farming community. All the participants have paid a visit to the exhibition on antioxidant and nutritionally rich fruits and vegetables. The vote of thanks was proposeded by Mrs. A. Behera, Nodal Officer, Staff Welfare, of the Station.
