Diagnostic kit to detect downy mildew of grapes
Application / Use: To detect downy mildew in grape orchards much before symptoms appear

Output Capacity: 1000 kits per day for medium sized production level
Specific Benefits: Prophylactic spray saves the farmer 50% of the cost of curative sprays. Yield of a protected orchard can be as high as twice the yield of a orchard that has received sprays after the onset of visible symptoms.
Unit Cost: Rs10/- once it is scaled-up (Needs scaling-up)
Description: The kit is simple to operate can be used by illiterate farmer in the field without any lab facilities as long as there is clean water. It involves crushing the leaf sample to get a few drops of sap which can be collected in a tube into which the stick coated with regents is dipped followed by dipping in detection regent and detection substrate. A positive and a negative control are included for reliability of the results. Washing of the dip stick in clean water are intermediary steps for which clean water can also be included in the kit.
