Dr. B.M.C Reddy

Born on 1st January 1947, Dr. B.M.C Reddy obtained his Doctorate in Horticulture from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore in 1988. He graduated from A.P Agricultural University, Hyderabad, in 1969 and did his post graduation from G.B Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, in 1972. He was awarded as AIPUB Fellow 2002 (Association for the Improvement in Production and Utilization of Banana).  He is recipient of AAPMHE National Award 1997 (Association for Advancement of Pest Management in Horticultural Ecosystems, IIHR, Bangalore) and Annual Award of Outstanding Scientist - 2000 (Peddireddy Thimma Reddy Farm Foundation, Hyderabad).

He was the Chairman of the Committee constituted to assess the problems of Nagpur mandarin production in Vidarbha region 2001. He has contributed significantly to development of horticulture and worked on the crop production aspects of pineapple, grape, banana and citrus for the last 24 years which includes rootstocks, training and pruning, spacing / plant density, nutrition and fertigation and use of growth regulators. Package of practices were developed for growing pineapple and banana. In banana, Dr. Reddy developed high density planting and nutritional requirements for optimising the yield.  Evaluated the performance of tissue cultured plants and superiority of these were studied with respect to growth, yield and quality.
