ICAR- KVK (ICAR-IIHR), Hirehalli organized “District Level Workshop on Multiple Cropping System with High Value crops in Tumakuru District”

A District level Workshop on “Multiple Cropping System with High Value crops in Tumakuru District” was organized in association with Farm TV Bengaluru funded by Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development Kochi (DCCD) at MBA Auditorium, SIT, Tumakuru on 14 October 2022. The Chief Guest Dr. Prasad, Joint Director, Department of Horticulture, Government of Karnataka, while inaugurating the workshop, emphasized on the significance of multicropping system in Arecanut and Coconut gardens and also production of quality planting material of cashew, pepper crops for increasing the farmers’ income in the district. Dr. N Loganandhan Head, KVK while welcoming the guests and the farmers detailed about KVK activities carried out in the district and production of the agri inputs products. Mr. Raghu, Deputy Director of Horticulture, DOH Tumakuru, delivered a talk on various schemes on Multicroppping system in the district.

During the technical session, Dr. Venkataramana Hegde, Chief Editor, Farm TV delivered a talk on selection of crops for multicropping system and in detail production practices of cocoa in areca garden;  Dr. M.N. Venugopal, Former Principal Scientist, IISR, Kozhikode, spoke about the scientific cultivation of Pepper, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Coffee etc., under Arecanut and coconut gardens; Dr. Guruprasad, Former Associate Director of Research, UHS, Bagalkot, highlighted the significance of Cashewnut in Tumakuru district and cultivation practices. The Progressive farmers - Dr. Prashanth from Chitradurga (Pepper, Cardamom and Coffee), Mr. Syed Ifthikar from Tumakuru (Arecanut+Pepper), Mr. Cheeranjeevi Reddy from Bellary (Cocoa) and Mr. Manjunath from Sira, Tumakuru (Cashewnut) - shared their experiences and economic benefits of adoption of these crops. Officers from Cadbury and Campco Ltd. provided the information on marketing. This workshop was attended by more than 300 farmers from all over Karnataka and coordinated by Dr. N Loganandhan, Head and Mr. Prasanth JM, SMS.
