ICAR – IIHR Organised an Online Discussion Meeting of ICAR Task Force Committee for Agro Climatic Zone X

ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru organised an on-line discussion meeting of ICAR Task Force Committee of Agro climatic zone X (ACZ X) on November 2, 2021. The programme was chaired by Prof. N. Kumar, Vice – Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agriculture University. Coimbatore. In his introductory remarks, the chairman highlighted the key concerns regarding cropping systems and various issues of four States viz, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. He also emphasised in bringing out the commonalities with respect to agricultural issues to be addressed and the strategies to address the same in all the four states.

The Member Secretary of the ICAR Task Force Committee of ACZ X, Dr. B.N.S. Murthy, Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, presented the glimpses of preliminary information about cropping systems, problems and strategies to address them and also he focused on the Terms of Reference (ToR) of Task Force Committee to be considered in execution of activities.

Then, there were presentations on the issues to be addressed and suitable strategies for identifying the common research priorities and to suggest the strategy for extension mechanism within ACZ X. The presentations were made by the Vice-Chancellors or respective Nodal officers of SAUs as members of the ICAR task force committee. The presentations were made in the following order: Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), Hyderabad; Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore; University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bengaluru, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal sciences University, Chennai (VASSU); Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State University of Veterinary, Animal and Fishery Sciences (SKLTSHU), Rajendra Nagar, Telangana; Sri PV Narasimha Rao Telangana State University for Veterinary, Animal and Fishery Sciences (SPVNRTSUVAF), Hyderabad; University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences (UAHS), Shivamogga; University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad; University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Raichur; University of Horticultural  Sciences(UHS), Bagalkot.

Later on, the presentations on the issues to be addressed were given by Directors or Nodal officers nominated by respective ICAR Institutes viz; Central Research Institute for Dryland agriculture (CRIDA), Hyderabad; Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research (IIOR), Hyderabad; Indian Institute of  Millets Research(IIMR), Hyderabad; Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR), Hyderabad; The National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad;  Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone X, Hyderabad; Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone XI, Bengaluru; National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources (NBAIR), Bengaluru; Directorate of Poultry Research (DPR), Hyderabad; Sugarcane Breeding Institute (SBI), Coimbatore; NRC-Meat, Hyderabad; National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology (NIANP), Bengaluru.

Then, there were presentations by various SAUs and ICAR Institutes as invitees as follows: Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh; Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research (IIOPR), Pedavagi, Andhra Pradesh; Central Tobacco Research Institute (CTRI), Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh; Directorate of Cashew Research, Puttur, Dakshina Kannada; Central Institute of Brackish water Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai, Tamil Nadu; National Research centre for Banana, Tiruchirapalli.

At the end, Prof. N. Kumar gave the concluding  remarks, in which he requested the members to  focus on major / significant problems of the major crops/livestock and the strategies on the same, taking One District One Product as consideration in all four states. Dr. B.N.S. Murthy, Member secretary of the committee, sought co-operation from all the members in bringing out appropriate and suitable strategies for enhancing the livelihood of farmers in Agro-climatic zone X. The programme coordinator, Dr. R. Venkattakumar, Principal scientist and Head(I/c), Division of Social Science and Training, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, proposed formal vote of thanks to the Chairman and the committee members.
