Primary tabs

Technology Description

  • Tuberose, is generally propagated through bulbs. The root-knot nematodes have been reported as the major limiting factors in successful tuberose cultivation.
  • One of the main challenges facing production and marketing of good quality tuberose cut flowers therefore is the lack of clean planting material.
  • Micro propagation in addition to being a tool to augment the supply of planting material in a short period of time, can also provide disease free planting material.

Technology Benefits

  • Micropropagation of tuberose is achieved through axillary shoot propagation, thereby maintaining clonal fidelity
  • Multiplication rate of more than 5 shoots / explant obtained for two hybrids of tuberose viz. Shringar (single type) and Suvasini (double type).
  • Can get disease free planting material.

Target segment /End User Profile

  • Tissue culture industry
  • commercial nursery growers

Market potential

  • The ever growing demand for bulbs of these hybrids, is necessitating the need to develop accelerated propagation techniques. In addition to its use as loose and cut flowers, new concepts like aromatherapy are widening their scope of applications in perfumery industry.
