A field day on Yard Long bean cv. Arka Mangala was jointly organized by ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru and KVK, Brahmavar on 29.01.2020 at Village Shirlalu, Karkala Tq, Udupi Dt. under Bhoo-samrudhi project. The main aim of this field day was to create awareness about the Yard-Long bean cv. Arka Mangala. The field day was conducted at the farm of Sri Gunpal Jain at Shirlalu village. Dr. P.C. Tripathi, Principal Investigator of the Bhoo-Samruthi Project, Dr. R. Senthilkumar, Dr. K.H. Anantha, PI Bhoo-samrudhi Project, ICRISAT, Hyderabad, Dr. B. Dhananjaya, Head, KVK , Brahmavar held an Interaction meeting with farmers and shared them about good agricultural practices for successful long yard bean cultivation. The field day was started with welcome by Dr. H.S, Chetanya , Scientist (Horticulture) KVK, Brahmavar, Dr. P. C. Tripathi, spoke about the yard long bean and the speciality of the Arka Mangala variety. Dr R. Senthil kumar explained about the ICAR-IIHR Technologies. He also invited farmers to utilize the opportunity of National Horticulture Fair, which is going to be held at ICAR- IIHR during February 5-8, 2020. Dr. K.H. Anantha explained about the Bhoo-samridhi project , its impact and achievements in different sectors of agriculture in last four years. He expressed that under this project CGIAR institutes such as CIMMYT, IRRI, ILRI, IWMI, IFPRI, ICAR-IIHR SAUs and KVKs came together to disseminate technologies. Dr. B. Dhananjaya, Head, KVK , Brahmavar explained the various on-going Bhoo- samrudhi activities in Udupi district . Sri. Dayanand Nayak, Sri. Padmaraj, Sri.Kadamba, Sri.Satish, yard long growers shared their experience about yard long bean cultivation. Sri. Gunpal Jain, Progressive Grower in his presidential remarks highlighted the problems of vegetable growers and potential of yard long bean in the coastal areas. Sri. Vinay, ICRISAT and Sri. Yogesh Kumar , CYMMIT representative, officials from Department of Horticulture, Staff members of KVK and more than 40 progressive farmers participated in the field day. The meeting came to end with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Jay Prakash, Scientist, KVK, Brahmavar. After the field day, all the participants visited Arka Mangala fields of Sri. Dhayanand Nayak and Sri. Satish Jain and interacted with growers. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist, Division of Social sciences and training and Dr. P.C. Tripathi, Principal Scientist, Division of fruits crops.
