Exposure Visit for Farmers of Adopted Villages to CHES, Hirehalli
ICAR-IIHR, Division of Social Science and Training was organised one day field trip/Exposure visit for farmers adopted villages of Linganehalli and Shivkotte to CHES, ICAR-IIHR, Hirehalli, Tumkur on 30.06.2018. The objective of the field visit was to create awareness about various fruit crops and advances in production technologies of ICAR-IIHR technologies demonstrated at CHES and KVK, Hirehalli. The farmers were taken to various research blocks (jack fruit, jamun, avocado, banana, dragon fruit, litchi, pine apple) of CHES, Hirehalli and Dr. G. Karunkaran, Principal Scientist and Head (i/c) extended welcome to the farmers and explained the importance, nutritive value and cultivation methods of these fruit crops. As part of visit, they also attended field day on dragon fruit farming for aspiring farmers organized by IIHR-Central Horticultural Experiment Station, at Hirehalli, Tumakuru.T his programme was inaugurated by the Dr. S.V. Hittalamani, Retd. Ex-Additional Director (Fruits), Department of Horticulture, Karnataka. Dr. G. Karunakaran, delivered lecture on dragon fruit cultivation including cost economics and Shri. Varadarajachary, Technical officer, CHES, Hirehalli explained about various materials and fabrication work involved in Dragon Fruit training Systems. Linganahalli and Shivkotte farmers also interacted with progressive dragon fruit grower from Chikkabalapura, Sri Narayanaswamy and got information related to dragon fruit marketing. During the programme, dragon fruit growers/farmers also shared their experience. This programme was coordinated by Dr V Sankar, Principal Scientist, Dr K. Achala Paripurna, Senior Scientist, Dr. R. Senthil Kumar, Principal Scientist and Mr Lakshimipathy, Technical, Division of Social Sciences and Training and ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore.
