Shri Surya Pratap Sahi, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Agriculture Education and Research, Government of Uttar Pradesh along with a delegation of State Minsters and higher officials visited ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (ICAR-IIHR) on 21 January 2023.
Dr Anand Kumar Singh, Hon’ble, Deputy Director General (Hort. Sci.), ICAR, New Delhi briefed the delegation about the scenario of horticulture production in the country, important technologies developed by various ICAR institutes of the Horticulture Division of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) which are suitable for Uttar Pradesh and possible areas in which the ICAR institutes including ICAR-IIHR can play a major role in promoting horticulture production in Uttar Pradesh.
Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director, ICAR-IIHR presented briefly about the technologies developed by ICAR-IIHR that have potential for demonstration, commercialization and promoting entrepreneurship.
The delegation had an interaction meeting with the Scientists of ICAR-IIHR, during which, in addition to the need to promote horticulture production in Uttar Pradesh, scope for application of technologies for processing of fruits and vegetables, especially towards mango pulping, tomato puree preparation etc., value addition, export promotion, mushroom production, seed production of vegetables, promotion of Kamalam fruit, straw berry cultivation was discussed. Distinguished delegates invited ICAR-IIHR and also other ICAR institutes for introducing and promoting the technologies in the state under appropriate MoU’s and demonstrations through KVKs.
The delegation visited facilities of ICAR-IIHR such as BESST-HORT, Mushroom Lab, Centre of Excellence on Protected Cultivation and nursery. The delegation expressed satisfaction about the visit and appreciated the ICAR-IIHR technologies. They also urged to have immediate initiative to demonstrate and transfer ICAR-IIHR technologies in Uttar Pradesh.
