CHES Chettalli organized vegetable nursery demonstration and input distribution programmes for tribal farmers at BR Hills
CHES (IIHR), Chettalli organized vegetable nursery demonstration and input distribution programmes for the beneficiaries of identified tribal farmers from seven villages (Hosapodu colony, Muthugadagadde, Yarakanagadde, Bungle podu, Keredimbu podu , Gombegallu, Nellikathar) at Biligiri Rangana Betta (BR Hills ) which comes under the Yalandur taluk of Chamaraja Nagara District, Karnataka during 8 and 9 th January,2018.The programme was arranged in the campus of Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra (VGKK) and Kere Dimbu podu village, Gombe Gallu villages of BR Hills. The programme was started with prayer songs of soligas tribes sung by High school students of VGKK and Mr Putta Renge Gowda, Member of VGKK and Secretary of BR Hills Soligas Tribes, BR Hills welcomed all tribals and CHES staff to the programme. Dr.V.Sankar, Principal Scientist (Hort.), CHES, Chettalli briefed about the objective and activities of the TSP programme at BR Hills. Further he explained the importance of vegetable cultivation for their nutritional security and also for their sustainable livelihood. He also demonstrated vegetable nursery raising techniques to all tribal beneficiaries and school children’s with the help of IIHR vegetable seed kit, Arka Coco-Peat and Pro trays. During the programme, Mr A.C.Mahadev, Scientist of CHES, Chettalli explained about fruit plants cultivation in coffee plantation at BR Hills. After the end of demonstration, IIHR vegetable seed kit, Pro trays, Coco-Peat media, Pepper plants, Budded Coorg orange plants, Dragon fruit plants cuttings were distributed to all identified tribal beneficiaries of BR Hills. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Mr Putta Renge Gowda, Secretary of BR Hills Soligas Tribes, BR Hills. This programme was attended by Soligas tribe’s leaders and more than 200 tribal beneficiaries of BR Hills and school children’s of Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra (VGKK), BR Hills. This programme was coordinated by Dr.V.Sankar and Mr A.C.Mahadev of CHES, ICAR-IIHR, Chettalli,Coorg.
